What addtional code would I use for a Pathology report that has a diagnosis of a pyogenic granuloma of the skin of the lip and doesn't dictate anything about an infectious organism? Do I still us an additional code of 041.89?

Ok, you would not use an infection code because a pyogenic granuloma is not caused by an infection actually. It is misleading as it is caused by trauma or an irritation. If you Google the term you will a more clear definition. Note though that if no infection is listed you can't code it. The code 041.89 means there is an infection but there is not a code for it in the manual. You don't have an infection listed so it doesn't matter if there is a code in the manual for it. Does that make sense?
It is also not truly "pyogenic," as the origin is traumatic and not infectious. Not a big Wikipedia fan but this is a statement I found there.
